Superdad.com.au is all about the joys, challenges and lessons of being a bloke in the role of primary caregiver.

From January to December 2009 I had the pleasure of being at home with my eldest son, Austin, for months nine to 19 of his young life. It was a blast, but it wasn't all easy.

This site captures it all. From self-feeding to potting training; the politics of playgroup and the suspicious looks from all those mums on the high street. There's recipes, activities and road trips. There's SAHD news from around the world. There's things not to do on online auctions - no matter how long your child's afternoon sleep.

It may inform, inspire or amuse. Heck, it might just do all three.

Rain Ruins Road Trip. Cabin Fever Sets In.

We never did make it to Mittagong. Worse still, we never made it past the mail box.

And now they're talking about another 50mm over the next few days.

The intent was there, I'm glad to say, and it will be again tomorrow. We were packed to go when Austin woke from his morning sleep, but with torrential rain having fallen for most of the morning I felt bad about taking him through that to the car, let alone driving in it for a couple of hours or what might await once we arrived in the Southern Highlands.

Instead, we spent another day at home.

I paced about a lot. He slept as little as possible, smeared food across his face and demanded at every opportunity to be picked up and/or handed a phone. There were several periods of blue skies, but these were gone and the rain once again upon us before we could get ourselves ready to walk to the shops or head out for a run.

We were left frustrating but dry, warm but increasingly stroppy. So much so that Austin's dinner was brought forward an hour to speed up the end of his day. In hindsight I should have threatened bedtime earlier - dinner was a mess-fest but once down from the table he was funny, affectionate and extremely well-behaved.

Just in time for Mum.

This was noted, however, so that'll be another $100 off his inheritance.
