From January to December 2009 I had the pleasure of being at home with my eldest son, Austin, for months nine to 19 of his young life. It was a blast, but it wasn't all easy.
This site captures it all. From self-feeding to potting training; the politics of playgroup and the suspicious looks from all those mums on the high street. There's recipes, activities and road trips. There's SAHD news from around the world. There's things not to do on online auctions - no matter how long your child's afternoon sleep.
It may inform, inspire or amuse. Heck, it might just do all three.
It's time to make a confession. I am an idiot. And ignorant to boot.
For the past nine months I've been flying solo; learning for myself, day-by-day, the tricks to the job of being a stay-at-home dad. Looking back, it should have been obvious that someone in America would have produced a handy two minute video guide that I could watch for free on the internet.
Should have been obvious, but better late than never.
I'm Philip Clark. In January 2009 my wife Kate and I returned to Sydney after three-and-a-half years in London. In tow was our son, Austin, then nine months. Fast forward two weeks and we had found the perfect house - with Kate the first to land a great job.
We were lucky enough to be in a position to choose that one of us would be at home with the boy. That someone, of course, was me. It was something I'd always want to have a crack at. It was an experience I wouldn't change for the world.
Things have moved on since then. Roles are reversed. Kate is now at home with boys one and two, while I'm suited up and at the office. The stories remain, however, and here you'll find almost all there is to know about my nine months at home with Austin.
